Rock Angels

2014-04-29

The kids have practically lived at the park the last couple days.  It has been so wonderful to be outdoors and have it warm enough not to worry about coats!  As we were playing, Emma called out, “Look, mom!  I’m making rock angels!”  Guess we’ve done snow angels enough that she thought it would be a good idea.  Can you say… bath time!  Love, love, love.

Snow… again…

So not happy to see more snow this morning.  At least we got the lawn power raked and mowed yesterday.  Such a change when last night we were out without coats and now there is a foot of snow.  Blah, blah, blah.

Breaking Ground

2014-04-25a

With all the crazy weather lately we were lucky to at least get the top soil removed for where our hangar will be built.  I don’t think we’ll get much more than this done as the forecast is for snow, but at least it’s a start.

Crazy Kids

The Easter baskets the kids got from B&T ended up being fun for more than just the presents in them!  I came in to the living room to find all the filling everywhere!  I just had to laugh though.  What crazy kids.  We ended up cleaning everything up about 15 times.  They were even ‘swimming’ in it!  Glad to see they have imaginations!

Easter Package

When we got home from the Easter Egg hunt, Emma and Ben got to open their package from B&T.  They were thoroughly spoiled!  They could hardly contain their excitement when they saw the huge baskets of Easter treats!

I couldn’t get Emma to look at the camera for a picture… she was too excited to look at all the things she got.  Ben thought the chicken that danced and sang the Chicken Dance was the best.  Both of them thought all the candy was great too!

We can’t thank you enough B&T.  Thanks for all the thoughtful gifts.  The kids loved everything.

Easter Egg Hunt

The Card Home hosted an Easter Egg Hunt today for kids 8 years old and younger.  We have never taken the kids to a hunt, so they were wondering what to do at first… but they caught on quickly!  They had kids 4 years and under go first, so it was nice not to have bigger kids to contend with.

The kids were so excited to gather as many chocolate eggs as they possibly could and kept getting distracted as they found more and more.  It was fun to watch.

By the end of the hunt, they both had the bottom of their baskets covered a few times over!  We’ll have chocolate for the next year!

Fun with Friends

Shannon and her girls came over this morning for some Easter fun.  We made ‘volcano’ eggs.  We took baking soda, mixed it with a bit of water and added food coloring to make a paint.  Then the kids painted their eggs.  Once they were done, we poured vinegar over the eggs to watch them bubble (and make a volcano).  The kids loved it and it was nice and basic to do.  We then made a quick (Dollar store) craft.

It was nice to have other kids over and I loved getting to visit with Shannon.  They were able to stay for lunch too.  It was such a fun morning.

Let the ‘Fun’ Begin!

The lumber for our hangar was delivered to the airport this morning!  Don’t you just love the beautiful weather we’re having? (NOT).  Lennard was there to meet the truck and get everything off loaded to the right places.  It makes me tired just looking at the piles of wood and knowing we have a LOT of work ahead of us.

Budding Artist

In the past month or so, Emma has really started enjoying coloring and drawing pictures.  It has been so fun watching her “practice her letters” and see the improvement.  I’m always amazed at how much she is learning (without a huge amount of input from us).  The other day at Stay and Play she wrote Ben without any assistance.  Today she is in to drawing rainbows and people.  My heart seriously melts when I get her pictures.  I want to save every single thing.  Thankfully I can take pictures of them all!

We Couldn’t Wait!

Well, we just couldn’t wait… Lennard got home from a rugby pre-season training camp in Fort Macleod and after a few minutes of rest, we pulled the box out of the truck and started building the teeter totter.  To say that the kids were excited would be an understatement.  Every step of the process they were right there wanting to help and anxious for a ride.

Were we smart for starting a project like this at 7:00 at night?  Probably not.  It was really cold and, even with gloves, my hands were frozen.  I had to laugh at the assembly plans.  With my parents building airplanes, I thought it was amusing to see the hardware labeled so nicely.  Not bad for us building an airplane in an evening eh? (Mom & Dad?!)

This is as far as we got the teeter totter put together when we decided it was too cold and too late for the kids to be outside.  They were not happy to be going to bed, but it couldn’t be helped.  They watched out our bedroom window for a while as Lennard kept working on it.  They finally went to bed with the promise that the plane would be ready in the morning for them to play with.

We finally finished at 9:00.  Not really that bad to assemble, we just shouldn’t have started at 7:00 at night!

First thing this morning when we heard Ben waking up I turned to Lennard and said, “How long will it take?” (knowing that he would be excited).  As Ben came in to our room, he didn’t even say good morning.  He headed straight to the window and asked if his plane was ready.  His expression was priceless as he looked out and saw the finished product.  He wanted to go ‘fly’ right then!

We did manage to convince them to have breakfast first, but then they were on their way.  They have been outside ever since!  It has been so fun listening to them.  I’ve heard things like:

“This is my bomber jacket!”

“We’re getting ready for the airshow tonight.”

“Uh oh!  We crashed!”

“We’re going flying!”

I love seeing how much they love it.  I am also more in love with my husband than ever.  I’m sure the last thing he wanted to do last night was build a toy, but he did it without complaint.  It was only when it was 90% done that I discovered that he hadn’t even had anything for dinner!  Poor guy.  As soon as it was done he made a Dairy Queen run and had dinner at 9:00 at night.  Oops!  He has another full day of rugby camp today, so I’m sure he will hear all about the airplane when he gets home this evening!  Thanks for being such an amazing daddy and for saving your wife’s sanity by building the teeter totter!

Fun Times

Last night we ended up going to Lethbridge.  Lennard has been so busy with rugby every night that we haven’t seen him much lately.  He has a training camp in Fort Macleod this weekend too, so we took the evening and Lennard let the other coaches take over for the night.  It ended up being such a fun evening together.

The first thing we did when we got in to Lethbridge was head over to Logic Lumber.  We paid for all the lumber that we need to build our hangar (yikes!).  It’s actually going to happen.  They will be delivering everything on the 15th and then the ‘fun’ will begin.

We were going to take the kids to Burger King so that they could play on the indoor playground there, but I just couldn’t bring myself to actually eating there, so we went for Chinese food instead!  We told the kids we were going to a surprise and Emma kept her eyes shut until we arrived.  She was SO excited when we opened the door of the restaurant and she figured out where we were.  Unfortunately, we discovered that they are closing their doors for good this weekend.  Glad we managed to get one last meal there before they closed!

The kids LOVE wonton soup and finished it right to the very last drop.  They did pretty good with everything else too.  I can’t wait til we get to take them to the Flamingo this summer in Vancouver!  Mmmm…

After my rant last week about our budget, I laughed so hard when I opened my fortune cookie.  Couldn’t have been more appropriate!

As we were leaving, the kids sang some lullabies to the fish.

2014-04-03b

We stopped at Value Village quickly and then headed over to Costco.  One of my friends had seen an airplane teeter totter and told me about it earlier in the week.  We had seen it before a few years ago, but the kids were too little then.  Since we just got our income tax return figured out, we decided that we could spend some money on the kids before the rest of it went in to a hangar!  I had to laugh that the kids ended up with a plane before Lennard!  (Love you, Lennard!)  It will be a nice addition out at the airport when we are building this summer.

2014-04-03d

The first words out of Benny’s mouth this morning was, “I go ride in the airplane now?”  Unfortunately, Lennard is going to be busy with rugby stuff until Saturday evening.  We might be able to do it then, depending on the weather, but most likely we’ll have to wait until Monday and do it for Family Home Evening.  Poor boy has been saying every 10-15 minutes, “I’m waiting for my airplane!”  This could be an interesting weekend!
