What a Difference a Day Can Make

IMG_8144

Yesterday, it was absolutely beautiful… the kids were outside playing with friends, no jackets and t-shirts.  Then, we woke up this morning to SNOW!  The kids thought it was great (me – not so much).  They played outside until they were completely soaked, but they had a blast doing it!  Only in Canada!  lol.

T-Ball

Benny got to start T-ball tonight!  He was so excited to try out his new glove.  (Guess we should have actually thrown a few balls with him before tonight!)  He got a ball cap and shirt and immediately got started playing.  They threw a few balls to start and then let them try to hit the ball off the T three times.  It was quite entertaining watching all these little kids that had absolutely no clue as to what they were supposed to be doing!  A couple of them caught on pretty quick and others were in their own little world.  It was pretty cute.  Ben did pretty good.  We’re going to have to take him out and work with him one on one a bit so he figures out when to run and when to stay on base.  They play for over an hour so when they were done, he was really tired!  I’m definitely going to have to remember to bring water with us and find something for Emma to do while he’s playing.

Story Time at the Library

The kids had a lot of fun at the library today.  They got to make their own ‘cars’ and go to the ‘movies’!  Ben made sure he had gas and brake pedals and a drivers license.  Emma wanted a huge licence plate.  After the cars were all decorated, they all lined up and walked out the bottom door and around to the front door of the library.  There they got to hand in their ticket and get a bag of popcorn and get seated so they could watch a Mickey Mouse cartoon.

Even when we got home, the cars were played with for most of the afternoon!

I watched a couple of Dina’s girls for an hour or so this afternoon and they decided to give themselves makeovers.  They had so much makeup caked on their faces that it was quite the look.  I’m not sure Dina will let her girls come over again (Ha! Ha!)

Soccer Season

We signed the kids up for soccer this year and today was their first day.  They were so excited!  It was a little chillier than I’d thought it was so their hands were freezing and I will need to find some sweatpants for them.  They thought the shin pads were strange, but they had a lot of fun kicking the ball around.  It was a bit of a gong show trying to get all the kids sorted into teams and get t-shirts handed out, etc.  The junior ‘coach’ was so soft spoken that the kids didn’t have a clue what he wanted them to do.  We spent the entire half hour just playing with them… which is fine for the first time.  I just hope they learn something more in the future!  The funniest comment we had was when both Emma and Ben asked if they could tackle!  They’ve watched too much rugby!  Ha! ha!

At the end of the half hour, one kid from each team was chosen as that team’s superstar – and Emma was chosen!  She was more than thrilled to get a medal.  Ben was a little sad, but we just kept telling him that he will get a turn too.  (They have to bring the medal back next week so it can get passed on to the next kid.)

Fun Times

Yesterday we went to the library.  I was a little worried as Ben had been sick all night, but he seemed lots better in the morning… I guess I should have listened to that little voice that said to give him another day at home.  He was great right up until we got to the library.  As soon as we sat down he started complaining that he was cold.  I had Izzy & Auri with me too, so it was a little harder to just get up and leave when they had a fairytale theme going on!  The girls were so excited to see a ‘real’ princess!  I managed to hold Ben on my lap and keep him fairly happy (not crying) until almost the end of the story time.  I finally went and got what they were going to be doing for the craft so that we could do it at home, took a picture of the girls with the princess and headed home.  The girls played all afternoon and were great, while Ben snuggled up in my bed and fell asleep for most of the afternoon!

Emma and Izzy had preschool today for a special Petland day so it was just the Ben and Auri. Ben was thankfully doing great!  (Finally!)  It was hilarious watching these two at Stay and Play.  Auri jumped on this and called it her train and convinced Ben he needed to come ride with her!  I love these two.

Fun With Friends

We spent the morning at Stay and Play where Emma had fun making cards with my friend Dina.  I can’t thank Dina enough for being so patient and indulging Emma’s every desire in making card after card!  We had quite the stack of cards to bring home with us!

Then, this afternoon, I invited Dina’s girls, Amy and Lorelle, to come play with Emma, Ben, Izzy and Auri!  It was quite the party!  Dina treated them all to Dilly Bars from Dairy Queen and they played outside most of the afternoon.  I love that my kids have such good friends.  I hope they stay friends throughout the years.

Best Friends

I’ve been watching Shannon’s girls for her while she does taxes and it’s been a blast!  The kids get along so well together (most of the time).  Here are a few pictures from the last few days.
