More Fun at the Airport

IMG_1715

These two have been such troopers this summer as we’ve been busy building the hangar.  I love seeing what good friends they are and how imaginative they can get.  Emma ‘enjoyed’ walking through the mud and getting thoroughly caked in it, while Ben decided it would be fun to dunk himself in the puddle!  Crazy kids!

Lennard was able to hook up all the electrical on the door tonight and we got the door working!  So exciting to see it open and close the way it should!

Happy 15th Anniversary!

How is it possible that we have been married for 15 years already?!  It feels like yesterday that we were nervously heading to the temple and starting our lives together.  I can’t imagine my life without Lennard by my side.  He is my best friend and an incredible daddy to our children.

It was such a nice evening to get away together and go out for dinner at the Keg.  Thanks for watching the kids for us, Shauna!

Tin Roof!

We got a babysitter for the kids this morning and went to work on the roof of our hangar!  Mom and Dad, Cub and Bryan Heninger came to help us.  It was quite the process.  We set up the boom and put a ‘ramp’ of sorts on it so that we could slide the long pieces of tin up onto the roof.  I climbed up the ladder, shimmied across and got into the bucket so that I could pull the tin the rest of the way up to the guys on the roof.  As fast as we could get the tin up, the guys had it in place and screwed down in a few places.  Amazingly, we had the entire roof on just after lunchtime!  I went and got the kids from Mishel’s, picked up lunch for everyone at Subway and headed back to the airport.  After lunch, Lennard went back up and finished putting in the rest of the screws.

Family Hangar Evening

What to say… we spent the evening at the airport (surprise!).  The kids had a blast ‘scaring’ Grandma, digging in the dirt and then deciding to go wading in the huge puddle.  Both kids were totally soaked and completely filthy by the end of the evening, but they had a blast!

Front Door

After a failed attempt at the door last night (the ribs on the tin didn’t line up after we’d started so we took it all down) it was nice to have some help and really get going on the door.  Mom and Dad helped us get started and within an hour and a half we had the majority of the door done.  We still have to play around with the last few pieces on each end, but at least a big portion is complete.

Oops!

It’s so frustrating when you make a mistake that could have been avoided.  I was mowing the front lawn and had finished everything except for the pile of weeds by the family room window.  We always just whipper snip it, so I’m not sure why I thought it would be okay to try to mow it… I was very careful to hold the mower up a bit so that I’d only get the weeds and not all the rocks, but I guess I wasn’t careful enough.  On the very last swipe, the blades caught a rock and flung it through the window!  So incredibly frustrating!

I turned the mower off and went to see what the damage was like downstairs.  There was glass everywhere… literally!  The glass went about 5 or 6 feet into the room and covered toys, blankets, etc.  I banished the kids to the backyard and started cleaning up.  I got everything vacuumed up as best as I could and was still finding bits of glass if the light caught it just right.  I couldn’t find the rock though!  I searched all over the place, but no luck.

When Lennard got home he went searching and ended up finding it clear across the room beside the recliner chair!  I’m so incredibly thankful that the kids weren’t playing downstairs.  It could have been so much worse than it was.

More Accomplished

Another evening at the airport.  Lennard got all the tin cut off on the front ridge.  It looks so good!

Time Together (AKA: Break from the Hangar!)

We probably should have been working on the hangar, but we decided to go on an impromptu trip to Kalispell instead!  We left about noon yesterday and, after about an hour wait at the border, we were on our way.  Thankfully the kids slept the majority of the time!  It was pretty dreary with lots of rain, but it was still nice to be away together.

We had dinner at HuHot, did some grocery shopping and had fun hanging out together in the trailer.

We weren’t impressed with the campsite and won’t stay there again.  The sites were small and our site was right next to the highway.  There was also a lot of dog crap that got stepped in… gross!

We got a lot of shopping done today and had stuff stored all over the trailer.  Under our bed was right full, the hall closet got filled up and then there was stuff at the end of our bed too!  Gotta love good finds for the right price!

It was a quick trip, but definitely needed.  I thoroughly enjoyed being away from the airport!

Tin

On Monday we started laying out the tin and getting it drilled and then today we started putting it up!  Lennard went out before me and by the time I got to the airport he’d got 3/4 of one wall done by himself!  I was amazed at how quickly it went up.  One side was done by 11:15.

We then got started on the west wall and had it done (up to the door) by 12:15!  Not bad for an hour’s work!

We definitely couldn’t have got as much done without the help of my parents.  They are amazing.

By 4:30, this was what our hangar looked like!  So amazing to get that much done in one day!

Murray Family Campout

Our annual Murray campout at the airport was a blast!  I was in charge of the food this year since mom and dad only got home from Nauvoo earlier this week.  I took so many pictures that I’ll only include a few here.  I think the best ‘activity’ that we had this year was a family dance.  I loaded a bunch of songs onto my iphone and put it through the speakers on our trailer.  The kids (and adults) had a lot of fun dancing with each other.

One moment that I will always remember is when my parents danced to ‘their’ dance “Can I Have This Dance”.  Dad was sort of goofing around, but as they danced I had the distinct thought come to me that someday I will not have them around and to remember every moment.  I teared up watching them and was extremely thankful that I had decided to start videoing when I did.  I have the dance recorded and will cherish that memory.

The evening ended in a HUGE rainstorm.  Of course there had to be a dare put out and Shauna and Rachel raced to the other side of the tarmac and back and got completely soaked!  We ended up having to pull tents and bedding into mom and dad’s hangar for people to sleep on the concrete floor, which was better than getting completely soaked (I guess!).  Lennard and I were very happy to climb in to our trailer, turn the heat on and go to sleep in a nice dry, comfy bed!

In the morning, the kids had fun with more jeep rides and then, after breakfast, Lennard pulled out our rocket and started setting it off.  Everyone had fun watching how high it went.  We only had one ‘incident’ when it landed on top of dad’s hangar!  We had Makenna climb onto the roof and get it for us.

IMG_6620IMG_6624IMG_6635IMG_6640

We then all headed in to Town for the parade.  It gets a little wild all sitting together with that many kids fighting for candy, but there was so much candy thrown to the kids this year that they all got lots!  Shauna was on her 20 year high school reunion float and they threw tons of candy.  It was a lot of fun.

Lunch was back at the hangar (with a few extras) and then everyone parted ways to do their own thing.

We got everything cleaned up and loaded just in time to head to Waterton for Dave’s surprise birthday party.  His birthday isn’t until the 15th, but with everyone down it made sense to do it now.  Nysha had cake and the kids got to play at the playground while everyone visited some more.  It’s been a long day, but a fun one.
