Date Night

We convinced my parents to take the afternoon off work and go with us to Lethbridge to the RV Show.  Emma has managed to stay in bed all night for a week so this was her ‘date night’ as her reward.  She was so excited that Grandma and Grandpa got to come with us.

We spent the afternoon wandering in and out of all the different trailers.  The kids loved every minute of it and I think my mom and dad had fun too.  We found one trailer especially that caught their eye.  It was definitely very nice (so was the price)!

After we’d gone through more trailers than we could count, we decided to go get something to eat.  Unfortunately, we hadn’t thought to make reservations anywhere.  We wanted to eat at Ricky’s Grill, but it would have been over an hour wait and the kids couldn’t wait that long.  We called The Keg, but they would have been at least 45 minutes wait too.  We then decided to try out the Shanghai for some Chinese food.  We’d heard others say that they really enjoy the food there, so we figured we’d check it out.

We should have known that it wouldn’t be super food when they couldn’t figure out what table to sit us at.  Then when we did get to a table, it was so wobbly that it moved every time you bumped it. We got water and put in our order, after some discussion as to how big the ‘large’ wonton soup really is.  Within a very short time, Emma accidentally spilled her water… right into our laps!  Lennard was on the outside and I was in the middle, so I couldn’t get out!  I managed to grab the table cloth and try to divert the water a bit, but I was soaked and so was Lennard.  With all the craziness, not one waitress came to help.  I finally got up, walked up to the front of the restaurant and asked for a cloth to clean up all the water.  The gal went in to the back, picked up a cloth, looked at it, put it down and then came out with a handful of paper towel.  Gag.  I cleaned up as best as we could and set the wet paper towel at the end of the table.

Then came the wonton soup.  The waitress had said that it wasn’t very big, so we ordered two.  It came out and one would have been enough.  Oh well.  We’d told her that we would be sharing it, so she brought two more bowls… but no spoons!  After waiting and waiting I finally got up again and asked for spoons.  Not the best way to start out a dinner!

The rest of the food came shortly afterwards and while it wasn’t the worst I’ve ever eaten, it definitely wasn’t the best by any stretch of the imagination.  We definitely won’t be going there again.

“My Next Flight”

IMG_3285

It was such a beautiful day today that Lennard took the afternoon off work and went flying!  After he’d gone for a while, I took the kids out and they each got a flight.  Ben especially was excited for ‘his next flight’.  He’s been asking constantly!

While the kids took their turns going flying, I hung out with my parents while they worked on Lon’s plane.  I shouldn’t be amazed at how many things they know how to do, but I always am.  They are so incredibly talented.

Oh What Do You Do In The “Summertime”?

It has been so beautiful today!  It got up to 18°C!  Emma was so excited to get to have a popsicle out in the backyard without even a jacket!  We are going to get a rude awakening one of these days when winter decides to come back! For now… we’re going to enjoy every single moment of warm weather!

Insulation

Lennard has worked really hard and got all the insulation (except for the door and ceiling) put in!  It’s nice to see progress being made (again!).

Best Friends

Yesterday and today I have been watching Shannon’s girls while she is on a course for work.  It has been quite entertaining!

Yesterday, Emma and Izzy had preschool in the morning so while they were gone, Ben and Auri played together.  Then, in the afternoon, all four of them played and drew pictures and built Lego.  They get along so well that it’s easy to have them together.

This morning, the girls decided to do ‘scary’ makeup on each other!  They were so proud of themselves.

Then, this afternoon, it got even more interesting!  Shannon won’t want to leave her girls here again!  They were covered in blue eyeshadow!  Auri even had it in her hair!  Good thing I was able to wash the majority of it off before they got picked up this afternoon!

And then there was poor Benny… he just stayed out of the way of all those crazy girls!  Ha! Ha!

LEGO

Ben’s favorite pastime lately has been playing with Lego.  The only thing that makes it better is when daddy plays with him!  Lennard wasn’t feeling great today, so he stayed home from work.  Ben was in seventh heaven when Lennard layed down on the floor and built him an entire airport!  Emma was at preschool all morning, so he got his daddy all to himself.  It was so fun to watch him just about glow in all the attention he got.

Lennard even managed to make a ‘hydroswing’ door for the hangar.  Ben loved every single minute.

Happy Birthday to Me!

It’s hard to believe I turned 40 today.  Yikes!  I remember when my parents turned 40… they were old (Ha! ha! ha!)  I wasn’t expecting to really enjoy my birthday, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

My friend, Shannon, invited me over to her place for the morning.  The kids love going to her place, so they were more than excited to get to play.  Then she invited Mishel, Dina, and Katie over too!  We visited most of the morning and then had lunch together.  Shannon made homemade chicken noodle soup and bread sticks.  So delicious!

This evening, I made dinner and had my parents join us.  I love having them over and it wouldn’t have been the same without them.  The kids were a bit disappointed that I hadn’t hung balloons for myself, but they got over it!  We had a cake from M&M Meat Shop in the freezer, so we pulled it out, put four candles on the top and everyone sang Happy Birthday to me.  Emma was so excited that we ended up lighting the candles twice!

Ben thought he was pretty smart being able to pick up his entire cake and eat it this way.  We just laughed and let him enjoy it.  The cake was so good!  Anything with cream cheese in it is delicious though!

Lennard surprised me this year and got me a pasta maker!  I’m so excited to try it out!  Ever since we had homemade pasta at Shannon’s, we have wanted to get a machine.  Lennard arranged with Shannon to look for one when she was at home in Utah over the holidays and she managed to find one.

IMG_7716IMG_7717IMG_7720IMG_7721

With all the picture taking all evening, Emma and Ben wanted in on the action.  They both got turns taking pictures with my big camera (with help).  The funniest was when Grandpa thought he would give Emma some bunny ears.  The best part was that she couldn’t figure out how the fingers had appeared behind her head!  Grandpa finally peeked out from behind me so that he could be seen and then we showed the picture to Emma and even then had to point out that Grandpa was in the picture.  It was hilarious.

It’s been such a wonderful day and I feel blessed to have such amazing friends and family that love me and support me.  I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday.
