Family Vacation–Part Deux

We were up bright and early and had a lazy morning getting dressed and having breakfast.  We were at the museum just shortly after they opened and had very few people around us as we toured.  The kids thought all the dinosaurs were great and loved the hands on stations that they could play at.  Emma had heard about paleontologists at preschool and was excited to see the glass floor room in the museum that they’d told her about. When the kids get a little bigger there are a lot of extra programs that you can pay for that allow them to dig for fossils, etc.

The kids loved watching ‘Shelly’ the soft-shelled turtle swim around.  They even got to hold a fossil of a soft-shelled turtle which they thought was pretty cool.

We went through the museum fairly quickly.  If we had stopped and read every sign we would have been there for a few more hours I’m sure, but the kids attention span didn’t last that long.  They wanted to race around and we wouldn’t let them, so it was easier to finish up and let them race around outside!  We climbed up to an observation landing outside the museum and the kids had fun looking at things through the binocular things.

There was a large playground beside the museum that the kids played at for quite a while afterwards.  I didn’t get any pictures of it, but they had lots of fun.  I’m always amazed at how quickly Emma finds a ‘friend’ to play with everywhere we go.

After we left the museum, we stopped back at the trailer, had a bite to eat and then headed across the river to the wading pool/splash park.  They thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  I was wishing I’d put on my bathing suit, but just waded around for a while to cool off.  We played here most of the afternoon and the kids would have stayed longer!  It just got so hot that we finally left and got some (very over-priced) ice cream!

A vacation wouldn’t be complete without checking out the ‘Big A’.  We drove out on a windy, gravel road out into the middle of nowhere to find the airport.  It was a little strange that the road goes right beside the runway without any kind of fence to keep people away from it.  Lennard went in and said that they have a very nice terminal building, so now he wants to fly to Drumheller!

The rest of the evening we spent at the trailer, relaxing!  We barbequed some hot dogs for dinner and the kids had fun playing with their ‘rockets’ and digging in the dirt (again).
