Canada Day and the Start of Our Family Vacation

Our Canada Day was spent hanging out in Raymond to watch the parade.  We got there in good time and set up and then waited for the parade.  The kids thought it took forever, but it was only about half an hour.  Thankfully, they were able to get a free balloon to play with and then later on a Canada flag.  Roger & Trisha were just down the street from us, so when they decided to go for a quick motorbike ride, we got to play with Jeffrey!  He’s getting so big!  Emma still considers him ‘baby’ Jeffrey though and wanted a chance to hold him.

This was as close as we got to a family picture this year (boo).  I really am with the family… just not in any pictures!  The parade was great and the kids got loaded up with candy.  About half way through the clouds rolled in and we got rained on, but thankfully it wasn’t too bad.  I hadn’t brought jackets for any of us, so we were all a little damp.

As soon as the parade was done, we headed home, hooked up the trailer and were on our way to Drumheller!  The kids fell asleep before we got to Fort Macleod where we stopped to grab some sandwiches and fuel up.  They were definitely ready to get out of the truck by the time we reached Drumheller though.  We made it to our campground easily with the kids pointing out all the different dinosaurs that are all over the town.

After getting the trailer set up, and as I was getting dinner ready, the kids entertained themselves by digging in the dirt… fun times!  It’s always interesting to see how much fun they have playing in the dirt instead of with toys.  Guess I should just forget to pack toys next time!

We let the kids play at the park for quite a while after dinner and then had a battle to get them to go to bed.  They’d eaten WAY too much candy on the drive and were absolutely wired.  It took us an hour to finally get them to fall asleep.  I laid down and ended up falling asleep too, but was woken up when the 1st of July fireworks started going off.  I just kept hoping they wouldn’t wake the kids up!  I didn’t even get out of bed, but managed to watch most of the show from the window.  Happy Canada Day!
