The 3:30 am wake up call was so early! I was very happy that I'd set the alarm on my iPhone as the wake-up call from the hotel was ten minutes late. I had already got dressed and was working on my hair when they finally called and then about ten minutes after that, they called to see if we were coming down for the shuttle! Yikes! Good thing we just put socks and shoes on the kids, got their coats on, and headed out. We didn't even get a chance to do anything with Emma's hair! The kids loved getting to ride the shuttle to the airport and did really good while we got checked in. They got a little tired of the huge line up that we ended in to get through customs and security, so it was nice when we finally got to our gate.
We had a bit of time before we would be boarding, so we had a bathroom break, filled water bottles and had some blueberry muffins for a bit of breakfast. When they called us to board, the kids suddenly weren't tired anymore! We found our seats and attempted to keep the kids entertained until we took off.The best part of the take off was when Emma raised her hands up like she was on a roller coaster! She loved the take off.
Thankfully, it didn't take too long and Emma fell asleep! It was such an early morning that I was relieved to see her sleeping and getting some much needed rest.
Unfortunately, Ben was adamant that he didn't need to sleep and ended up playing on the iPad for most of the flight to Salt Lake City.
As we neared Salt Lake, the flight attendant came back and gave the kids Delta 'wings'. Ben was convinced that he was now a pilot! After finding our new gate, Lennard went off to McDonald's and got some Egg McMuffins for our breakfast. We sat right by the windows, so the kids were entertained watching all the planes taking off and landing. Of course, they also made friends with a little girl and her mom that sat down beside us. These kids can make friends with anyone!
Our flight to Orlando went well. I had packed lots of coloring, wikki stiks, etc. They both played a bit on the iPad and iPhone for a bit. Before long, we were there!
They loved getting to ride the train shuttle to where we were able to claim our baggage. Thankfully, everything arrived! It was a bit of a hike with all the luggage and booster seats to find where to get our rental car.
After a bit of hassle with the rental associate (they wanted us to buy 'their' insurance), we took a bit of scenic tour of the airport and finally found our car! We got everything loaded in, pulled out our GPS and headed to the resort. Unfortunately, I didn't take in to account toll roads! We had some US cash, but no change! We managed with the first two, but then the last one was exact change only... and we didn't have any change! It didn't help that there wasn't an attendant there either. We finally found an envelope on the outside of the building with an address of where to send the payment and kept going. (What a pain for $0.75!)
We finally found the resort and went to get checked in. Of course, they are master sellers and couldn't just check us in without attempting to get us to buy passes for all the resort activities and trying to get us to sign up for a sales meeting. We declined both and had to drive through the huge resort over to the River Island section where we were staying. It was a little tricky to find in the dark, but we eventually got there. Everything was exciting to the kids - elevators, key cards, new rooms to explore. They were slightly wired!
After unwinding for a few minutes, we had to go back out! We hadn't had a chance to buy any groceries yet and we hadn't eaten much all day, so we were all hungry! We headed to the Golden Corral for dinner and the kids had a blast picking out whatever they wanted to eat. They had some pretty interesting combinations!
Thankfully, after we were all fed and back at the resort, it didn't take too much to get them tucked in to bed and asleep for the night.
