Airplanes!

We had an airplane kind of day today. We'd decided to go to the Evergreen Air & Space Museum and on our way there made a last minute decision to go see Van's Aircraft in Aurora. We got there just as a tour had started with two people, so we were able to join in. The other couple were looking at buying a RV-10 kit, so the majority of the tour was directed at them, but it was still quite amazing to see all the parts for all the different aircraft. The tools alone were amazing. We were really wishing we had the money to bring home a new engine for the 10 that Dad is building...maybe next trip ;-)

As we were heading to the truck, Ben ran ahead and wiped out on the pavement. He really did a job on himself. Both knees were skinned and bleeding a bit, both hands were a bit raw, his lip, nose, and forehead all got scraped up and his glasses bent. He was a mess. Thankfully I had put a small first aid kit in my bag, so I had bandaids!

Ben cried for most of the way to McMinnville and then fell asleep about ten minutes before we got there. He was not a happy camper and we ended up carrying him through most of he museum. Little frustrating for us. Emma was content to try out every seat in the museum (old airline seats) and buckle the seatbelt every time!

We finally walked over to the Space museum to get some lunch. Ben was walking a bit by then and ended up walking smack into a handrail.  The poor boy. We got our lunch, but after about three bites neither kid would eat any more. We finally boxed up their sandwich and, while Lennard went to check out the museum, I took the kids outside to play on the playground. Best decision ever!  Ben was miraculously healed and Emma got a group of kids following her around and playing her made up games. The playground was amazing and the kids had a blast.

After they had played for about an hour, we went over to the Waterpark. It was very expensive to get in, but we had a lot of fun. Emma had a blast going down all the kid sized water slides and Ben loved playing with all the levers, cranks, wheels, ropes, etc that all made water shoot out in different places. There was a huge bucket that would fill up and dump ever so often that the kids weren't overly impressed with, but overall it was a big hit. Lennard and I took turns going on the adult slides that each started in the Boeing 747 on the roof of the building.  It was quite the hike going up all the stairs, but the slides were lots of fun.

Emma wasn't very happy that we had to leave, but we could tell they were getting tired...and so were we!  The GPS led us on an interesting scenic route to get back to the trailer. We even ended up on a toll ferry!  Ben thought it was awesome!

Emma and Ben were both asleep when we got to the trailer. Emma stayed asleep, but Ben woke up. I forgot to add that Ben has had some kind of allergic reaction the last couple of days. His eyes are red, itchy and swollen. He snuggled with Lennard most of the evening and then when Emma finally woke up we got them some dinner. Lennard suggested that we go for ice cream cones and it wasn't until we were in the truck that we realized that it was almost 9:00!  Such good parenting.

We sat outside and ate our cones and then called my mom and dad to wish them good luck on their mission to Nauvoo that they leave for tomorrow. It was good to talk to them. Thankfully the kids went right to bed and we haven't heard a peep out of them!
