Traffic

We woke up to an absolutely beautiful morning. No wind and nice and warm. It really made me question why we were leaving! We should have booked longer on the coast, but I guess that will have to wait for another time.

It was interesting to watch how the landscape changed as we went farther up the coast. We were glad we stayed where there were so many sandy beaches for the kids to play on instead of a lot of craggy cliffs or driftwood filled beaches.

We ended up stopping in McMinnville for lunch in the trailer. It was The most convenient spot to park the trailer at the museum and the kids were happy to see the playground again. We let them play for a bit and then we got on the road again.

We laughed when we pulled in next to this truck and trailer.  It made us feel like we had a ‘baby’ trailer!

Getting through Portland made my heart race... I was thankful that Lennard was driving! I'm glad I don't live where there are multi-levels of roads all going at top speeds. Crazy!

We decided to fuel up in Kelso, Washington and it was a good thing we did. After that the traffic crawled along very slowly. It was ridiculous. For over an hour and a half we were in stop and start traffic (definitely not something we are used to). We finally got going and decided to find the nearest campsite and call it a day. This picture was taken after we’d got through the worst of the traffic… had to laugh when there was finally a sign saying to expect delays!

We found a campground about 11 miles south of Olympia. It is a beautiful place. Loads of huge trees and we chose a site that backs on to a large field for the kids to run and play on. It has been such a beautiful evening that we had our dinner outside at the picnic table. Ben was so excited that we were eating outside that he could hardly stop talking enough to eat! We played some games with the kids and then had an early night. It's been a long day fighting all the traffic and we are exhausted.
